How many types of industrial wheels are there?

Companies working in the various industrial fields need to know which are the types of industrial wheels and how many types are available.

This is a complex question and there is not only one answer, because there are many types of models, each one including many versions, concerning constructing materials, size and brackets and all this varies according to the context of use.

Therefore we believe it is more correct to provide some general indications for dividing the industrial wheels into macro-categories based on their practical use.

Industrial wheels for antistatic and conductive usages

In dealing with industrial wheels, it is also important to consider aspects connected with conductivity.

Conductive wheels and brackets are main system components for a wide variety of industries: from biomedical and pharmaceutical industry, to electrical engineering and also the chemical and the automotive industries.

Conductive wheels and brackets are necessary in these contexts to protect the appliances against electrostatic discharges. Using antistatic wheels avoids electrostatic discharges which may damage people or things.

These types of wheels can be coated with rubber, synthetic materials, metal, but also with antistatic polyurethane.

High temperature wheels

Another selection criterion for industrial wheels and brackets is their resistance to high temperatures.

In this case, the most important factor for the customer is the working environment where the trolleys or other appliances work. In these contexts, wheels are tested in their resistance to severe temperatures (extremely hot or cold), based on specific types of load and for different surfaces.

Wheel manufactures have studied special temperature resistant materials to ensure resistance to deformation even in the most demanding conditions of usage in terms of temperatures which are usually in the range -40°C to +400°C.

Special attention is focused to the right compromise between high resistance and ease of use of the trolleys at such temperatures (during and after exposure to severe weather).

Industrial wheels for special equipment

Apart from trolleys, which are the most widely used in industrial environment, there are many other types of equipment needing industrial wheels to be moved.

In fact, we are referring to wheels for scaffoldings (or mobile scaffoldings), furniture wheels, institutional wheels, wheels for waste bin containers, wheels for pallet truck rollers.

For all these elements, which are mainly manually handled, there are particular needs requiring specific wheels.

Wheels for light, medium and heavy duties

Another criterion to be considered in the selection of the wide range of industrial wheels is load. There are different types of wheels, for light, medium and heavy duties. Each one of these macro-categories also includes many specifications regarding various features: from the working environment, to surfaces (smooth, uneven, with obstacles, delicate surfaces, etc.) in order to choose, according to the loading capacity, the wheel meeting the operating need of the trolleys with special attention, whenever necessary, to resistance to chemical or corrosive agents.
